Product Review-Ugly Stik Tiger Lite Jigging Series

Welcome to an affordable jigging, bottom fishing and all around great super strong fishing rod; it’s the new Ugly Stick Tiger Lite Jigging Series!  This is the best built and most affordable jigging style rod series I’ve ever used or seen!  These rods can be used for so many applications; jigging, live bait fishing and bottom fishing.  As a full time fishing guide, I’m always looking for a strong yet sensitive fishing rod.  Rods like this make it more enjoyable for my customers to catch fish; light feeling rods with big power.  The great thing about this rod is it’s all that, yet it’s almost unbreakable and it has a GREAT price; retail $69.99 yes $69.95. Here are some specs on the Tiger Lite jigging series:

• Howald ProcessTM Tripple BuiltTM blank design with added graphite for lighter weight, increased sensitivity and more pulling power.
• Actions specifically designed for jig and bottom fishing.
• Double-footed Fuji black aluminum oxide guides with stainless steel frames, Tip-tops feature Alconite inserts for a combination of strength and durability.
• Graphite Fuji reel seats with stainless steel cushioned hoods.
• Durable, fighting length EVA grips with contoured fore grips for added comfort.

Some of the applications I’m using these rods for are; live bait & jig fishing for Cobia, Red Drum, Sharks.  I like these rods for high impact fishing; any scenario where we could break a rod or the line when catching larger fish.  The reels on these rods are the Penn Conquer 7000 with the BWSJL220066 with forty pound Spiderwire braid.  What a great and powerful combo!  I have found that customers can break rods but it’s going to be hard for them to break these! I’ve never found a Ugly Stik, that isn’t worth it. I use many of their Catfish & Striper series rods, for Redfish & Trout. I’ve used rods that cost upwards of $550 a piece……They were the ones not worth using. They always broke! I’m back to ole school. Cause ole school works. I started with ugly stiks in the charter biz, and now am right back to them.

  5. tommy says:

i bought a tiger lite jig 5’10″ 80-130# line, and it broke in half the first time i used it. i have lots of ugly stick rods and this is the first to let me down. the problem i have is the costumer service. i cant get in touch with a real person and all the recording says is to send them $10. i already paid $70 + tax and 2 hours of gas driving to get the rod, just to only fish 3 hours before 3lbs of fish and the rod snapped in half.

I am looking for a 7ft heavy jigging rod. no one in my area seams to have anything like this, could you help me.

    • Capt. Jot Owens says:

      Kenneth,

I have never seen a jigging rod over 6’6″ long, not to say there is not one out there; most jigging rods are short due to the high torque loads that are put on them while jig fishing in deep waters. Also shorter rods are much easier to jig with during high speed vertical jig fishing. I hope this helps, what kind of fishing do you want to use the jigging rods for? Maybe I can make a recommendation of a rod?

      Thanks Kenneth,

      Capt. Jot

  7. John says:

Would these rods be good for handling big catfish and the occasional jetty fishing?

    • Capt. Jot Owens says:

      John,

The Tiger Lite Jigging rods are very strong yet very sensitive! I have caught Tarpon over 100 pounds, Cobia over 80 pounds and too many to count Bull Redfish from 5 to over 40 pounds on my Tiger Lite Jigging rods. I think they will work just fine for big Catfish and jetty fishing. If you have any other questions John, just let me know.

      Thanks for reading John,

  8. Mat barz says:

What do you recommend for a Bait Casting Reel for Jigging Fly’s and squid bait ,
Rock fish will be at the 150 Feet to 75 Feet Prime fishing zones.

    • Mat,

Depending on how heavy of line you are using and/or how big of fish you are mostly catching, will make a major difference on what reel I would recommend. Here are a few different ones at different classes of size and price.

On the lighter end of things, but very strong for its size; check out the Abu Garcia Revo Inshore, Abu’s web site is; http://www.abugarcia.com

For some heavier reels try the New Penn Fathom Star Drag Series, I use these reels on a weekly basis and they work great; strong drag and a great gear feel!

If you would like to go with a even stronger workhorse of a reel try the Penn Torque Star Drag Series. One of the very cool aspects of the this reels is the Versa-Gear Kit system that allows you to change the gear ratio of this reel from 6.0:1 standard to 5.4:1 or 4.8:1. This allows the angler to have a reel for there specific type of fishing. Check out all the Penn reels at http://www.pennreels.com

If you have any other questions just let me know.
