Road Sage

Written by Andy Whitcomb

Taking a marketing cue from some of professional angling subjects, I now drive with some advertisement on my vehicles. And I don’t know how they do it.

I asked a couple of Elite BassMaster anglers, “Does driving around with your name and sponsors all over your rig influence road rage? Do you have to internalize more?”

“Yes and yes,” was the response from Dave Wolak.

But Russ Lane seems more easy-going, at least off the water. “Nah. People wave and smile. I don’t get road rage, waste of time.”

I was cut off in traffic the other day when someone turned illegally into the far lane and for an instant felt like expressing some raw emotion to an ignorant driver. Then I remembered the big identifying letters on my tailgate… A sign that not only implies the question, “How’s my driving?” but ties my hands with, “I’m not allowed to tell you how you are driving.”

Deep breath. No more road rage. I am now an ambassador for fishing web sites.

Not that I have ever been that much of a hot head anyway. Since the arrival of my two little anglers, the only time someone is given “the bird” in traffic is when my wife and I are trying to quickly cool chicken McNuggets.

Holiday travels are rapidly approaching and you just might see my little magnetic sign on the back of the truck or the wife’s crossover. And you might even see me yelling… With my hand out of the window… But just remember that sometimes chicken nuggets are really small and hard to see.
